The performance of the the dragon dance along with the accompaniment of the lion dance is a staple piece of art that traces back over thousands of years. With the dragon dance believed to have roots tracing back to the Han Dynasty. These two performances were made as a ritual to drive off evil spirits while ushering in good luck for the rest of the year. The art form is a spectacle to behold in both a spiritual and physical sense with performers having to train for it year round.
The impressive mixture of acrobatic excellence along with vibrant movements all while following the rhythmic beats of the drum. Two lions can be seen in the middle surrounding the centre dial that hosts a single performer playing the “tian ling” (the heavenly bell). The entire scene is then encompassed by a group of corresponding performers guiding the long red dragon that circles the mystical event.
