SPHYRNA II

The Sphyrna are a genus of hammerhead sharks. A symbol of law and order in the depths of the ocean. As a school of six swirl and crash around three human divers, the setting seems dire. However, the true picture tells another story. The divers are merely observers to the behaviour of the awe-inspiring beasts. The hammerheads, while wary of the divers, are focused on their own purpose of patrolling the ocean maintaining the order of a healthy ecosystem. This scene reminds us that sometimes fear overcomes us in scary situations and everything may not be as it seems. The scenery paints a simple picture of predator and prey when in reality they are simply temporary colleagues in the same pursuit of studying and maintaining. The risk of jumping into an unknown realm with an unlimited number of consequences may seem reckless and foolish, but risks begets progress.

The beauty of humanity is the willingness to take a leap of faith in the pursuit of growth. What would you do? Play it safe? Or put everything on the line in the pursuit of progress? This watch stands as a reminder to be brave and smart when taking chances. Calculated risks are the pillars of progress. The divers are a testament to the lengths humanity has gone to gain knowledge. The blue background is darkened with the addition of greyish black rocks to simulate an ominous setting on the shallow waters the hammerheads and divers find themselves in. The majority of the sharks sit on the outer dial with a total of four of them swimming by every hour. The middle dial houses the remaining two sharks that are much faster than the rest of the group as they circle the dial every minute around the very active diver in the centremost piece. The diver accurately moves with each passing second.
